There are two new highways in Mexico’s Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo region, and they are beautiful.

Governor Hector Astudillo Flores presided at the official opening of the two stretches of scenic roadway on March 23, one running between Cerro del Vigia, Riscalillo and Playa Larga and the other between Playa Larga and the airport.

While locals will surely enjoy the roads, it is possible that they will be joined by growing number of tourists. Zihuatanejo is under consideration for designation as a “pueblo magico,” a “magical town” rich in cultural and historical appeal. That decision will be announced on April 15 and might result in many more cars passing those decidedly magical views en route
